Synapse Rewire Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ explains what Synapse Rewire is, how its recovery workflow and metrics operate, what the AI Coach can use, how Synapse Shield works, and where the product's limits are. The answers are based on repository code and current public policy text; they do not claim medical validation, guaranteed results, unverified prices, or live extension-store availability.

What is Synapse Rewire?

Synapse Rewire is behavioral recovery and accountability software for people managing compulsive digital habits and other user-selected behaviors. It combines personalized plans, daily check-ins, urge tracking, progress indicators, an AI Coach, and optional browser enforcement. It is a self-help tool, not a healthcare provider, diagnostic service, emergency service, or replacement for professional therapy.

How does Synapse work?

A user starts with an assessment about the habits they want to change, their current pattern, and their goals. Synapse uses those answers to create a starting recovery plan. Daily check-ins, urge logs, and completed tasks then provide the activity data used for progress views, reports, and contextual AI guidance.

What is Synapse Shield?

Synapse Shield is the companion Chrome extension for website-level enforcement. A user can configure a site as blocked, limited by daily time, or unavailable during scheduled hours. The extension caches the signed-in user's configuration locally so enforcement can continue when the website is closed or the internet is unavailable.

How is Synapse different from a blocker?

A blocker mainly controls access. Synapse also records check-ins, urges, slips, recovery tasks, and progress so the user can review patterns and continue after a difficult day. Shield adds blocking to that broader accountability workflow; it does not replace the rest of the platform.

How is Synapse different from a streak tracker?

A streak counts consecutive days. Synapse also keeps lifetime clean days, a previous best streak, Recovery Integrity, Recovery Momentum, trigger history, and a Recovery Score. A slip can affect current indicators while older progress remains visible instead of being treated as if it never happened.

What is Recovery Score?

Recovery Score is Synapse's 0–100 daily progress indicator. It is a product metric, not a medical score or diagnosis. The score is calculated locally from recovery activity already stored by the app; the same inputs produce the same result. A separate AI-written insight may explain what to focus on next.

How is Recovery Score calculated?

The formula starts at 50. It adds points for the current streak (up to 30 days), today's check-in, a journal entry, up to three resisted urges, completed recovery tasks, a win verdict, and recent non-slip consistency. It subtracts points for a slip, a missed check-in after an established pattern, or a recently broken streak, then clamps the result from 0 to 100.

What is Smart Streak Recovery?

Smart Streak Recovery is Synapse's non-binary progress model. It combines Recovery Integrity, Recovery Momentum, lifetime clean days, the previous best streak, a recovery timeline, and a post-slip mission. Its purpose is to preserve useful recovery history while still showing that slips and repeated slips affect current progress.

What happens after a slip?

A logged slip lowers relevant indicators and resets the ordinary current streak where applicable, but it does not delete check-in history, lifetime clean days, or the previous best streak. Synapse can generate a three-step Emergency Recovery Mission and a brief pattern analysis for the slip day. Completing the mission reduces, but does not erase, that day's Recovery Integrity penalty.

What are Command Mode and Focus Mode?

Command Mode and Focus Mode are two presentation styles for the authenticated product. Command Mode uses the original tactical interface; Focus Mode uses a calmer, lighter interface. Both read the same recovery records and shared calculation engines, so changing modes does not create a separate account or separate recovery history.

Is Synapse therapy?

No. Synapse is self-help and accountability software. It does not provide medical care and is not a substitute for a licensed therapist or other qualified professional. AI output can be inaccurate and should not be the sole basis for important health or safety decisions.

Does Synapse diagnose addiction?

No. Synapse does not diagnose addiction, mental-health conditions, or any other medical condition. Labels, levels, scores, and momentum states inside the product are software feedback based on recorded activity, not clinical assessments.

Is Synapse free?

A user can start Synapse with a free account. Repository copy also anticipates optional premium features, but no verified public price table or public checkout is currently published. Any future paid terms should be presented to the user before purchase; this page does not imply a price that has not been confirmed.

What habits can Synapse support?

The product includes flows for compulsive short-form video, pornography, social media, gaming, doomscrolling, gambling, junk food, and other user-selected habits. Synapse provides planning and accountability tools for behavior change; it does not claim that every habit has the same cause or that the software is a treatment for any condition.

How does Synapse protect recovery data?

The repository uses Firebase Authentication, access-controlled Firestore data, local browser storage for product state, and authenticated server endpoints for sensitive operations. The Privacy Policy says Synapse does not sell personal information to advertisers or data brokers. No internet service can promise absolute security, and users should read the policy for the current scope and retention terms.

Does Shield work offline?

Configured enforcement does. Shield evaluates cached blocking rules, schedules, timers, overlays, and usage locally in the extension, so those controls do not require the Synapse website or Firebase to be reachable. Signing in, initially syncing rules, and sending activity back to the account require connectivity.

Can Synapse work without the extension?

Yes. The web platform provides onboarding, plans, check-ins, urge tools, coaching, progress, and reports without the Chrome extension. Shield is an optional enforcement layer for users who also want site blocking, limits, and schedules.

Who built Synapse?

Synapse identifies Parth Goyal as Co-Founder and CEO, leading engineering, AI systems, technical strategy, and product development, and Sandali Tiwari as Co-Founder and COO, leading product management, marketing, operations, research, branding, and growth.

How does a user start?

Open the Synapse web app, create or sign in to an account, choose the habit or habits to work on, answer the onboarding questions, and generate a starting plan. The user can then complete daily check-ins and optionally connect Synapse Shield when extension access is available.

What data does the AI Coach use?

Coach prompts can include the user's chosen recovery identity and tone, current streak, saved plan, selected habits, recent check-ins, urge information, and derived trigger patterns when relevant. Synapse sends AI requests through an authenticated server endpoint. The coach is not a therapist, and its output may contain errors.

Is Synapse an emergency service?

No. Synapse is not monitored emergency care and cannot dispatch responders. It includes automated checks that can show crisis resources, but those checks are imperfect and must not be relied on in an emergency. A person in immediate danger should contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis service directly.
